Emotions expressed through art
This work I drew after my Grandfather passed away. This was
the only way I could express my true emotions then. So I stared drawing using different
styles, text/quotes and pictures to show how upset I was, after I drew the
picture I felt fine and happy.
In case you can’t see the words I took a picture so you can see.
My photo from Torquay. Then re-designed using Photoshop
I went to Torquay and sat down for a looked through this hole in the wall and saw a lovey view of the harbour. So I took a picture of the harbour to remember how lovey it was there. After I came back from Torquay I used Photoshop to make a wonderful piece of work, and this is how I did it:
I went into Photoshop, took the picture I wanted to use and clicked on ‘quick selection tool’ and selected the circle bit in the middle, right clicked on selected bit, clicked on ‘layer via cut’ – this separated the hole and harbour view so I could work on each part individually.
I
clicked on the layer I wanted to change, clicked on ‘filter’, then hovered the
mouse over the arrow next to ‘stylize’ until it came up with the icon ‘glowing
edges’, clicked on ‘glowing edges’, then clicked OK. I did the same initial process for the
background (i.e. wall part around the hole), but instead of clicking on
‘stylize’, I clicked on ‘texture’ and went to the icon ‘grain’, clicked
OK.
I
am very pleased with the use of Photoshop to create this picture. I liked the use of ‘glowing edges’ to further
develop the harbour view and I like the grainy look of the background, i.e. the
wall part around the hole. My initial
photograph was unusual, taking a photograph of Plymouth Harbour
through a hole in a wall, but showing the outline of the hole.
I
think my use of Photoshop reflects a sense of stillness and calm to the picture
as if the use of ‘glowing edges’ sort of stops the busy feel of the harbour.

Portfolios

There are loads of portfolios you can do like;
Online portfolios - websites, blog, social network, e - books
Digital - CD/DVD
Traditional - A3/A1 Traiditional portfolios
- Photobook/sketchbook
What are their Advantages and Disadvantages?
A - can see in person
- life's restraints
- easy to keep and store
D - heavy
- storage problems
- Geography restraints
- can not see texture, real size etc...
1. Why do you have to select work for a portfolio?
You would not put all the pieces in your portfolio because it will be too big. Choose pieces that represent you as an artist. This is a story of how your design was created and you as an artist have developed and used new skills.
2. Should you include finished work only?
NO!!! The reason why is because you may want to show how your workings and developing ideas have improved or been adapted. This is imported when going to interviews.
3. Why can portfolios be used for?
This porfolio can be used for interviews, jobs, art exhibitions or even just for pleasure of looking at.
4. Do you need to include any written information?
YES!!! This can sometimes give you more infomation than the piece of art, for example; modern art. Some artist work are explanitory, for example; traditional art.
5. How can you tell what is your strongest work?
Only you as a person can know what is your strongest work, you feel in your heart and soul, you know this is one of your best pieces of work. Nobody can tell you its not, its how you feel about it that counts.
Can you find example of these?
